Mini-Camp

Alan was invited for an area mini camp and excursion day for all the MC/OC’s in the Cape Town area. I went along because I wasn’t sure how he’d do in a completely new house full of new faces etc etc….but within a few minutes I realized it wasn’t necessary.

That’s what’s so great about our wonderful Family! You can find the same spirit everywhere and it puts you right at home. I had a fun break anyway ;)

A CP board member and her entire home got behind the excursion day from getting the kids up at 6 a.m and getting them breakfast and showering, preparing lunch the night before for the picnic, word classes and all.

The excursion was about an hour away but the drive was right along the coast going through the scenic towns of Windhoek (my personal favorite) and Muizenburg, with its postcard worthy shots that look something like what I would imagine the French Riviera would look like.

Quaint, café’s and bohemian bric a brac shops line the small streets a stone throw away from the magnificent ocean.

We visited a quarry that mines semi-precious stones and after the guided tour we were able to collect some of our own from an enclosed area rock garden type thing except the “gravel” is completely made up of beautiful stones that you collect up in a little bag and can take home (for a price).

We bought the chart as well to know what we were collecting. We got some jasper, amethyst, different colours of quarts, tigers eye and Alan was particularly chuffed to get a crystal.

We stopped off at a penguin walk to eat lunch and penguin watch, then on to another beach for some sand and sea fun, and yet another stop on the way home for Sundae’s and play at a giant McDonald’s.

We got home and they’d still hadn’t had enough so off to the pool for a dip (saved the shower time though). A word class on the Crystal Stream and Praise time games followed, dinner then a movie projected on the wall to top it all off!

Whew, the following day wasn’t quite so full but fun fellowship and activities for the kids were planned.

I’ll get an entire CD of photo’s from it and will post soon.
